Today's ride if from Kingman to Peach Springs
Last night I stayed on the eastend of Kingman. Only a couple of miles outside of town is more open road. Light traffic and a good shoulder to ride on.
A few miles outside of town is "The Outpost" definitely a locals hangout
Sorry to say I didn't get a picture of the building but this place is at least 10 miles from the nearest anything. Most of these places survive on tourist traffic. Note the phone booth.
I found Herbie
In Hackberry, Az. on the north side of Route 66 is a shop that only sells Route 66 memorabilia and a few snacks and cold drinks. They also have a collection of some old cars
A few mile further east another gas station that closed because of the lack of business
this truck was in the back
and yet another
this one offers S&H Green Stamps
For those that are reading this blog and are TOOOO young to know what Green Stamps are I added a link above 😉
The scenery was changing the higher in elevation I got
the long and unwinding road...
A place out in the middle of nowhere. You quickly learn to stop at all of these places and refill all of your water bottles.
Father and son riding from Apple Valley, Ca. to Maine
After a long day in the saddle, I stayed at the Grand Canyon Caverns. Sorry no picture but here is a link. No I did not stay in one of the Cavern rooms. They also offer a typical motel on the side of Route 66.
There were many “out in the middle of nowhere” defunct businesses.
