Holbrook,Az to Chambers,Az

Thursday 19 April 2018

Today's ride is from Holbrook,Az to Chambers,Az

A little backing up.  I stayed in Holbrook two nights.  The second night I stayed in the Wigwam Hotel.  I had previously stayed in A Wigwam Hotel in Rialto, Ca.

The sign on the door says Tow Mater's Grand Pappy

That's a piece of Petrified Wood

Also in Holbrook is a street named after the Bucket of Blood Saloon
And what street do you live on?

Leaving Holbrook is an establishment that sells pieces of Petrified Wood

$800 and it weighs several hundred pounds
Leaving Holbrook there was a headwind for several miles which turned into a very strong crosswind of 25-35 mph.  At one point I was blown from the bike lane to the middle of the road before I could say oh no (or something like that).  The next two pictures are on the way to Petrified Forest National Park.

At the National Park.

Pieces of petrified wood.

The scenery going through the park.  The colors are incredible.  The road through the park is about 25 miles long.

These are only a few of the pictures I took while going through the National Park.   And, I would have taken even more if I hadn't been battling the wind.  At one point I was going down hill peddling hard and maintaining 7 mph.  The last 25 miles of the day were riding along Interstate 40 with a helping wind.  Not a direct tailwind but helping.

The Petrified Forest National Park is definitely on my list of things to do again.  There are visitor centers located at both entrances to the park, and there are several side roads to take that I did not consider because of the wind.  A definite do over.

AND to finish off the day I crashed.  I pulled into the parking lot of the hotel, there was a VERY strong cross wind, I was leaning heavily to the right, I was slowing down to get off the bike and as soon as I got near the hotel the cross wind quit and over I went.  The only thing hurt was my pride.
