Today's ride is from Hesperia to Barstow
This morning I headed out to the first, newly opened, Cracker Barrel restaurant in California. For those that know me, when I travel I like stopping at this chain of restaurants because the food is typically good and the coffee is OK. So, a quick trip there and at the checkout stand I spied the Chunky and I had to have it. Brings back memories of years gone by...
After breakfast I went back to the hotel and loaded up the bike and headed down the road. Between Hesperia and Victorville there was shop that had a very large selection of metal art for sale
I would have bought the dinosaur but I didn't bring a trailer.
In Victorville I saw another indication I was still on the correct road. On the way out of Victorville there is a Route 66 museum I wanted to stop at
but as fortune would have it the place is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Oh well, the next Route 66 Museum is located in Barstow. Along the way there are stores / shops seemingly out in the middle of nowhere
All trying to get the tourists to stop in.
In the litterateur on Route 66 there is a place called Bottle Tree Ranch I was going to post lots of pictures of the place but this link does a much better job of it
There is not much to see along the way except the beauty of the surroundings. It may seam like there is nothing there but maybe there is beauty in just that. The Route 66 logo is painted on the road in what seamed random spots until I started paying more attention. They are spaced about 5 miles apart.
As I got to the Barstow city limits there was this sign. There are several more, very similar within Barstow but with a different car on top. There is one, just outside of the hotel and I'll try to remember to take a picture in the morning.
Yesterday I had luck with a tailwind helping me up the Cajon Pass, well today I had a headwind the entire day.
Good thing the ride was mostly down hill but it was still a tough pedal. I headed over to the Route 66 museum and in the same location there is a train museum. Several railroad cars and engines are outside as well as a large exhibit hall. The Route 66 museum is just beside it
As you can see, today I'm two for two for seeing a Route 66 museum but only on the outside.
The cycling to date has not been all that difficult. I think the hardest day was the first day getting out of Los Angeles. The number of traffic lights made it difficult to get into a rhythm. The ride up the Cajon Pass was noisy because of all of the car and truck traffic but easy to get the bike in a comfortable gear and just grind...
The drivers, so far in California have been very courteous to me but watch out at traffic lights. They run red lights even worse than Tucson drivers.
Not sure if I will have a internet connection for the next couple of nights so, if there are no posts wait until Friday evening before sending out the National Guard.
Lol! what a coincidence that your route lead you to the only Cracker Barrel in the state but both Route 66 museums were closed. 🤔 Great pics of the train museum though.
