Today's ride was Rialto to Hesperia
This morning I headed out from my Wigwam to breakfast at Corky's Kitchen and Bakery in Rialto 3.5 miles away. This place was a recommendation from the clerk at The Wigwam Hotel. The food was good and the coffee was flavorful and hot. I then headed out for a long climb. Route 66 parallels Interstate 15 about 2/3 of the way through Cajon Pass.
as you can see, or not, the weather was heavily overcast and the temperature around 50 degrees (10 deg C) with a slight tail wind
Plaque about the Cajon Pass
about 2/3 of the way up the pass the old Route 66 disappears and I needed to ride on I 15
The ride was slow going, one exit later I got off and went to a Chevron Gas station for liquids and to change my cycling jersey. It was only 50 deg but I was sweating as if it was 90. Dry shirt and fluids I continued up I 15 for a little over 6 miles.
At the top ! About a mile later was the first exit to get off I 15. Route 66 then ran parallel to I 15. I had a ride of 9 miles to go... down hill and down wind. I was traveling between 25-30 miles an hour. 4 miles in I saw
and I had to stop for a "double double" (two pieces of meat and two pieces of cheese). Then more down hill and down wind to my hotel for the night. A hot shower and a nap were "in order".
I bet you are sleeping well tonight. Nice job on climbing Cajon Pass, and what a nice location for an In-N-Out joint!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog so far. Keep it going!
ReplyDeleteAaaahh, downhill plus a tailwind ... doesn't get much better than that. Thanks for including the map feature in your "Today's Ride" listing. Very nice addition to your journal.
ReplyDeleteYay for downhill and yay! for tail winds!!
