On the outskirts of town there were stacks of logs for a paper mill.
on the outskirts of town there was a bike path for a few miles. I saw no other riders and only a couple of walkers. It was very peaceful with lots of different birds singing.

The ride today traveled over lots of rolling hills.
Lots of rivers and creeks along the route
This sign might indicate some humid riding conditions ahead
The route today spent lots of time on a major street Rte 101 which had at least a 4 foot bike lane with an exception as the road went past the second of two lakes. The first was Lake Sutherland the second was Lake Crescent. Between the two lakes I met three ladies from the Montreal area that were cycling from Vancouver to San Francisco.
I showed them a map that I had received from a bike store in Sequim that showed the wide sholder we were riding on gets very narrow going along Lake Crescent. The distance along the lake was a little over 11 miles. None of the ladies had a flashing tail light I told them if they wanted I would ride last along the lake as I have bright yellow panniers and a bright flashing red light. So we headed around the edge of the lake. Before the sholder went away there were a couple of signs
This activated a flashing sign indicating bicycles ahead |
The next sign |
There were lots full logging trucks going in the other direction and empty ones going in our direction, cars, campers, and other trucks gave us plenty of room when passing. There were pullouts we used every 1/4 to 1/2 mile.
A few pictures along the lake taken at a few of the pullouts
At the end of the lake we stopped for a lunch. We then continued along the highway, a few miles later my chain broke. At this point in time, the ladies decided continued as they were planning on stoping further down the road than I was.
I removed the broken link and replaced it with a masterlink. Problem fixed except I only brought one masterlink. I sent a text message to Steve Watts and he found me a bike store about 14 miles down the road tomorrow and if they don't have the link the next bike store is 2 1/2 days away.
I stopped at the Bear Creek campground / RV park. There was a restaurant there, the Hungry Bear. The people there were very friendly and the food was good
