Thursday 16 July

After  leaving Seaside, the road heads inland for a few miles back into the forest.
The large tree is at least 6 feet in diameter.

 Then back to the coast.

I stopped in the next small town which is called Cannon Beach. This town is a very expensive tourist trap. I stopped for breakfast but all of the restaurants did not open until 8 o'clock and it was only 7:30 I went to a coffee shop for coffee and a muffin or donut or something and they wanted $2.75 for a cream filled donut. I did not even order a cup of coffee. I waited until a small diner in town opened and had breakfast. While waiting for the restaurant to open, I cycle along the beach and came across a sign telling a story of why all Oregon beaches are public, there are no private beaches.

Another ocean view.
The road is continually going up n down. In the town of Rockway Beach this is the tourist information office

Between the towns of Rockway Beach and Garibaldi which is about 8 miles, runs a steamengine train. It runs about once an hour.  I did not go for a ride.

Next on my agenda,  was to set up my tent in the Tillamook RV campground but they wanted $38 for a tent site.  I went down to the Tillamook Cheese factory for a tour, sample some cheese and get an ice cream. The line for ice cream was like a Disneyland. They must have had a dozen people scooping ice creat, 4 people making waffle cones. It wasn't all that expense

Then I went to the Blue Herron cheese factory and sampled their cheese. They had a good smoked Brie.   Then I got a room for the night.

  1. Linda White - Oregon has the right idea to keep their beaches public! Great pics. I love the ebb and flow between forest and beach.

  2. Butch - Good for you for getting a room instead of setting up the tent. Sounds like campgrounds are almost as expensive as staying at a motel, and a lot more trouble! And remember, "You can't take it with you!", so splurge on the expensive treats along your way.
