Friday 31 July

I stayed in Eureka to get the blog caught-up.  I will not have internet service for the next 3 or 4 days. I spent lots of time emailing Squarespace and on the phone with Samsung trying to figure out why I'm having so many problems with writing the blog. This afternoon, I was luckey and got the blog caught-up. I hope you all enjoy the pictures. The scenery has been incredible.
And thanks for all of the comments you are leaving.

Thursday 30 July

Today's ride was from Elk Prairie State Park to Eureka. The ride was out of the Redwoods and back to the coast. The weather was off and on foggy. Many places the visibility was down to a couple hundred yards.

This is a picture of the meadow near the campground.
 and the campsite
There is suppose to be more Elk in the area than Deer but I've only seen the deer.
down the road a ways and the fog is rolling in

The ride today paralleled Hwy 101 near the town of Trinidad. The first road was Patricks Point Dr. The road went into Trinidad

I stopped for lunch, about an hour break then continued on Trinidad Scenic Dr.

A couple of miles further, the fog was so thick you couldn't see the ocean. I stopped in Eureka for the evening.

Wednesday 29 July

Today's ride is from Crescent City to Elk Prairie State Park. I worked on the blog early in the AM without much success.  So, I got a late start. I stopped at a local coffee shop and bought a good looking honey bran muffin and two macaroons. The idea was, the muffin for when I got to the top of the hill and the macaroons for desert after dinner. I had  an 1100 foot climb coming and didn't want much for breakfast.  The ride went along the coast for a couple of miles then the climb took me into  Redwoods.

This point is about 1/3 the way up the hill.
a look back at Crescent City

compare the motorcycle to the size of the  trees
At the top of the hill I had the bran muffin, as planned, and one of the macaroons. The second one did make it to dinner😊
Down the otherside of the hill we are back to ocean views

Then the road heads inland and up. It is hard to describe the size of these trees except they are huge.

The last 8 miles today on the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway was extremely interesting. There are many short hikes into the Redwoods on both sides of the road. I will definitely be back on my way to Tucson.

Web problems

I have been working on this page for over 2 hours. I add a picture and Squarespace deletes two I add text and Squarespace deletes text or another picture. I have no idea what is going on so....... I'll try again later

Tuesday 28 July

Today's ride is from Harris Beach State Park to Crescent City, CA. When i checked in at the campground i asked where there was a good place for breakfast.  Both ladies in the booth said Matty's Pancake House in Brookings. They said it opens at 7 and I should be there early. I left the campground at 7 and stopped for some energy snacks and got to the restaurant at 7:40.. I got seated right away but by 8 there was a line of people waiting to get in. The food was good, but too much food. I could not finish.

The ride for the most part today was flat. It started on the coast and went inland through farm country.

The joke back in 1973, someone modified a similar sign on I10 and added "And Now Go Home"

Sorry,  no farmland pictures.  Many coming a little further south in California.

Monday 27 July

The weather for the last 10 to 14 days has been great cycling weather. Start out mid to upper 50's and end the day in the upper 70's. The humidity has been high but, this isn't Camelot. There has been light morning wind out of the south then turning east then north - northwest.  Some afternons the wind has been 20+ mph out of the north. A great way to finish off a day of riding

Today's ride is from Gold Beach to Harris Beach State Park.

I got an early start because there is a 1100 ft climb a few miles down the road. Still great views along the coast

No pictures going up the hill or back down the other side but more ocean views

This is called Arch Rock

Natural Bridges Cove. Supposed to be spectacular at high tide and waves directly from the west.

Sunday 26 July

Today the idea was to try to work on the blog first thing in the morning but the motel wifi was down. Steve, Barb, and I have a 12:00 reservation for a 104 mile jetboat ride.

Along the way we saw dear, river otter, and several types of birds including Osprey, bald eagle, turkey vulture, western grebes, great blue heron, and lots of others I'm not sure exactly what they are.

A couple of people on paddle boards

we would go through some rough water and the captain would cut back on the throttle and send a wave of water over the boat getting most everyone a little wet

looks like a coyote howling at the sun

covered over 100 miles today, and no pedaling.😆
