Bethany, OK to Baxter Springs, KS

This post will cover several days of riding

Bethany, OK to Chandler, OK

Chandler, OK to Sapulpa, OK

Sapulpa, OK to Chelsea, OK

Chelsea, OK to Baxter Springs, KS

The ride from Bethany to Chandler took me through the northern part of Tulsa, OK then along route 66.
In the town of Bethany I saw two murals.  The second is in three photographs.

Old gas station turned into gift shop

Round Barn in Arcadia.  The last round barn still standing in Oklahoma

The remains of a very old gas station

A story about the gas station

Oklahoma run of 89  This link is one of many about the land rush.

An old gas station turned into a motorcycle museum.

Note the width of the shoulder.  And speed limit (suggestion) is 55.

Rock Cafe Stroud, OK

Friends from Tucson met me for breakfast.  Hector and Teri Melendez.

Just outside of Sapulpa, OK a suggested Bar-B-Q place.

The food was very good and the service friendly.  A must do again!

A friend in Tucson is into cabooses.  I have sent him many pictures since the start of this adventure.

The route through Tulsa was through some old neighborhoods on the north side of the city.  This was the easiest route through a large city so far.  In the downtown section the route the route included riding on some bike paths.

Several miles out side of Tulsa.  Lots of rolling hills.

This is downtown Chelsea,OK.  Most of the businesses are closed.  The local diner, The Main Street Cafe has very good home cooked food.

A mural in Chelsea

An old bridge on Route 66 on the outskirt of Chelsea, OK

Not sure what type of flower it is but in some areas there are lots of them.

More Oklahoma rolling hills.

A storm just to the north of me.

The ride today, had winds out of the south 20-30 mph.  I was lucky my route took me east then north then east then north all day.  So about half of the ride I had a good tailwind.  I met Rob Goodwin from Columbus, Ohio.  Rob was riding in the opposite direction heading to Santa Monica.  Rob had a tough day of pedaling ahead of him.

Based upon the condition of the car, I'd say the service here isn't what it use-to-be.

Made to Kansas without seeing a tornado. I'm looking for Dorothy...

The riding from Bethany, OK to Chelsea, OK was very stressful.  Most of the road I traveled on had little or no shoulder and high speed traffic.  Most of the cars slowed down and passed way left of me but the truck traffic was a different story.  By the end of each day I was so exhausted I was in no condition to write on the blog.  Thursday afternoon after I checked into the Chelsea Inn I laid down for a quick  nap. Two hours later I got up, took a shower and went back to bed.  I slept until Friday morning.  Refreshed, the ride Friday was much more pleasant, the road had a wide shoulder the entire day AND the part time tailwind sure helped my riding spirit!
