Baxter Springs, KS to Carthage, MO

Saturday 12 May 2018

Today's ride was from Baxter Springs, KS to Carthage, MO

The route left Baxter Springs and went down an old segment of Route 66.  There is an old bridge on this route.

There are only 17 miles of Route 66 in Kansas.  The last town going east is Galena which is located on the Missouri boarder.  Another large mural on the side of a building.

More old cars

Entering Joplin.  Note the Route 66 sign.  Missouri does a good job signing Route 66.

The next town north of Joplin is Webb City.  Route 66 goes through the old part of town.  There are many large brick houses.  There must have been lots of BIG money in the town at one time.  Sorry I didn't take any pictures, I know I should have but I was very busy dodging very large potholes.  I saw the visitor center with the lit OPEN sign so I thought I would stop in.  OPEN except Saturday and Sunday.

Route 66, in this area, is definitely a road less traveled.
